Een serie kattenmodeportretten met in de hoofdrollen de 15-jaar oude tweeling Terry en Lilly tussen installaties van mechanische katten. In SPHINX SKINS werken Europa's topkattenfotograaf Geoffrey Lilemon en de kattenmodecouturier Sofie Zwerver voor de eerste keer samen. Resultaat: een wervelend en kleurrijk optreden in het statige 19e-eeuwse interieur van Het KattenKabinet.

SPHINX SKINS
A series of feline fashion portraits featuring 15-year old twins Terry and Lilly among mechanical cats installations. SPHINX SKINS brings together for the first time the unique mind of Europe's leading cat photographer Geoffrey Lillemon, with the creations of haute cat couturier Sofie Zwerver.
A flowing tea and bubbles party among the sumptuous interiors of an old Amsterdam mansion in the heart of the city plays host to the exhibition starting: october the 4th.
Fini's cats mid-June in The CatCabinet
The CatCabinet has recently acquired a new work of art: a portret by Leonor Fini (1908-1996) of her own cats. Fini was fond of her cats and was therefore very much attached to this painting: it was placed in her bedroom during her life. In honour of the new acquirement an exhibition has been recently opened in The CatCabinet.
LEONOR FINI
Leonor Fini (1907-1996) was an illustrious person in the French and international art world. She spent her childhood in the intellectual salons of Trieste, which was in those days an international cultural metropole where people of great renown like James Joyce and Italo Svevo found inspiration. In her teenage years Fini moved to Paris where she soon mingled with the artistic community.
Among her friends: Picasso, Max Ernst and Henri Bresson Cartier. With Bresson Cartier she made a trip by motorcar around the world, in the thirties .
Fini lived together with the Italian diplomat and artist Stanislao Lepri –like Fini difficult to classify as regards his style- and the Polish literator Constantin Jelenski. Besides these two partners, Fini had many Persian cats.
Although she never considered herself a Surrealist, she nevertheless has participated in almost every major Surrealism exhibition. Nature, mythology and the ephemeral aspects of life are her favourite themes. Cats and felines play a prominent role. Her work consists mainly of paintings and drawings, but she also made stage scenes and sculpture.

Fini's eigen katten medio juni 2010 in Het KattenKabinet
Het KattenKabinet is sinds kort een kunstwerk rijker: een portret dat Leonor Fini (1908-1996) maakte van haar katten. Fini was zeer gehecht aan haar katten en dit schilderij: bij haar leven hing het portret in haar slaapkamer. Ter ere van de nieuwe aanwinst is medio juni 2010 een tentoonstelling over Fini geopend in Het KattenKabinet.

Leonor Fini (1907-1996) was een spraakmakende figuur in de Franse en internationale kunstwereld. Haar jeugd bracht ze door in de intellectuele salons van Triëst, destijds een internationaal culturele stad waar groten als James Joyce en Italo Svevo hun inspiratie vonden. Maar het grootste deel van haar leven woonde en werkte ze in Parijs. Ze was autodidact: om de menselijke anatomie goed in de vingers te krijgen bracht ze liever uren door in het mortuarium dan in de bankjes van de academie.
Fini was bevriend met vele kunstenaars, onder wie Picasso, Max Ernst en Henri Bresson Cartier. Met die laatste vertrok ze in de jaren 30 in een auto in een reis om de wereld.
Fini leidde een ménage à trois met de Italiaanse diplomaata nnex kunstenaar Stanislao LePri -net als Fini moeilijk in een hokje onder te brengen qua stijl- en de Poolse literator Constantin Jelenski. De twee heren waren niet haar enige huisgenoten: Fini heeft haar hele leven lang vele tientallen Perzische katten om zich heen gehad. Binnenskamers zien we haar zelden gefotografeerd zonder een kat in haar armen.
Fini heeft niet alleen veel schilderijen op haar naam staan, zij heeft ook als ontwerpster aan ballet- en filmproducties meegewerkt en zij heeft boekuitgaven van onder andere Shakespeare en Edgar Allan Poe geïllustreerd.
Fini wordt over het algemeen gerekend tot de surrealisten. Natuur, mythologie en vergankelijkheid zijn terugkerende thema’s. Daarbij spelen katten en katachtigen een prominente rol.
FINI’S TE KOOP
Een Fini scoort tegenwoordig hoog, wat prijs betreft. De afgelopen tien jaar is de waarde van een ‘echte’ Fini enorm toegenomen. Het KattenKabinet heeft enkele originele litho’s te koop. U kunt ze bezichtigen in de winkel van het museum.
